reasons to stop smokingWhat's your reason to stop smoking? It could be your health, the expense, the health of your children, or the new antismoking regulations spreading around the world. But whatever your reason, this site is here to help you, with the ABC of giving up your nicotine habit!

You can find all kinds of information here, from general info on the history of smoking to the latest ideas on how to quit. It was Mark Twain who said "Giving up smoking is the easiest thing in the world. I know because I've done it thousands of times." To stop smoking has never been easy, but the good news is that we have many more tools at our disposal than Mark Twain ever did!

How to Stop Smoking

The American Lung Association sets out three steps that you need to follow in your efforts to stop smoking:

Preparing to Quit

The first stage in the process, this is where you examine the effects of smoking on you and your loved ones, look at how much the habit is costing you, and figure out your personal reasons for quitting. Its important to plan ahead - set a quit date, tell your friends and family, and prepare for the cravings that come with withdrawal.

Using Medications

Nicotine is a powerful drug, and its rare to find someone who can give up 'cold turkey' without any assistance. This extra help can come from medication or a variety of alternative treatments, such as hypnotherapy, acupuncture or herbal remedies. Read through the explanations in our 'How to Stop Smoking' section and find the one that suits you!

Staying Smoke-free

Here's the difficult part. Anyone can stop smoking for a few days, but what happens when you really get that craving again? Certain situations make resisting temptation very hard, but there are ways to curb that feeling. Whether its a change in lifestyle, help from friends and family, or a more formal support group, look in our 'Withdrawal' section for some helpful tips.

steps to stop smokingThe average person tries to stop smoking two to four times before quitting successfully. Its not easy, in fact it may be one of the hardest things that you've ever done. The most important thing is to prepare yourself mentally, and make sure that when you quit, you really mean to quit for good.

Of the three steps laid out above, the most important is the first. Only by really researching the health impact of smoking, can you put yourself in the right frame of mind to make this commitment. Find something that really matters to you - it could be the health of your children or an elderly relative already suffering from a smoke related disease - and use that as the basis for your quitting process.

Lastly, remember to contact us if you need any advice or support. You can stop smoking if you really want to, so good luck!

"Hey your site really helped! I actually went for the hypnotherapy, kinda nerve-wracking but it seemed to do the job. I stopped smoking 3 months ago and I'm still smoke-free!"
- Dave (Miami, USA)

"Hi I was looking for an alternative way to quit smoking, when I quit I decided that I didn't want to put any more poison in my body so the patches or pills weren't an option. I ended up trying some herbal treatments and they worked great! 2 months and counting now..!"
